Turncoat Beer Label
As a project in my publication class, I was tasked with researching and designing the labels for a porter beer named Turncoat.

RESEARCH
Porters are generally known today to be a dark beer and are usually saved for the fall or winter months because of their thick and heavy flavor. America was graced with the porter along with the British in the 1700s. Turncoat is an older term used to describe a person who changes alliances. It was a common tradition to wear buttons on one’s coat that announced what political party one was tied too, so if they were to hide their allegiance or change it they would “turn their coat” to hide the button.
I found that most of the porter designs I found consisted of typography that was usually older and heavier with a lot of character to it. Most of the colors were browns and tans (probably because of the dark malts) with some dark blues and reds and many of the ones I liked had a slight texture to them, perhaps referring to the long, dated history of the beer.
